Family Description

We are a fun-loving couple, with two active cats named Tilly and Bev, looking to grow our family. We are well-established professionals, with stable incomes, and are ready and able to provide a loving home for children. Approximately 8.5 years ago, we chased our dream and moved to Oregon. We have been so enchanted by the natural beauty that this state offers. We enjoy outdoor adventures and taking local trips, such as visiting the Oregon Coast, the Columbia Gorge and Mt. Hood. We look forward to becoming parents and beginning this next chapter of our lives.

Preference Description

We would like to adopt a boy or girl birth-10 years, of any ethnic background. We are open to a sibling pair with mild to moderate issues, special needs and/or behaviors.

Introduction

While we both grew up in Southern California, we discovered that it was a shared dream to move out of state and embark on a new adventure. Our goal was to establish roots in the Pacific Northwest and start a family. Approximately 7 years ago, we chased our dream and moved to Oregon! We have been so enchanted by the natural beauty that this beautiful state offers. We enjoy taking local trips, such as visiting the Oregon Coast, the Columbia Gorge and Mt. Hood. We feel so fortunate to live just outside of Portland, with so many fun places to visit, such as the Oregon Zoo, the Japanese Garden, the food carts, and the farmer's markets!

Child Preferences

We are open to all children, ages 0-10years, with mild to moderate special needs. We are hoping to adopt 1 to 2 children and would be interested in adopting siblings as well. We look forward to creating the next chapter of our story!

Home and Community

We have a spacious 4 bedroom home with a beautiful fenced backyard. Our neighborhood offers sidewalks and lots of children with whom to play. We also have walking trails that are walking distance from our home. Our school district has excellent schools and offers Club K After School Zone, a program that provides a safe and enriching after school care for students. Our city/community offers several parks for hiking, walking and riding bicycles. In the summer, Dirksen Nature Park offers "Movies in the Park", a family-friendly event, where we can bring chairs and a picnic to watch newly released movies on a 20-foot screen. Our city hosts other annual events including The Festival of Balloons, The Street Fair & Latino Festival, The Family Fest Fun Run. We also have the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge nearby, which is a great place to explore while trying to spot the local wildlife. There is so much fun to have!

Parenting Experience

We have been reading the following adoption-related books: Attaching in Adoption: Practical Tools for Today's Parents-Deborah Gray, Nurturing Adoptions: Creating Resilience after Trauma and Neglect-Deborah Gray, Attaching Through Love, Joy and Hugs:Simple Strategies to Help Build Connections with your Child-Deborah Gray, The Primal Wound: Understanding the Adopted Child-Nancy Newton Verrier

Support

We are thankful to have a large support system. Locally in Oregon, we have neighbors and many friends who are supportive of us in our adoption journey. Our neighborhood has lots of children! Our family members live in Washington state, California and Florida, but we are able to spend time with them throughout the year and they place an active role in our lives. We are also aware of the following organizations in our community and beyond that offer adoption support. Northwest Adoptive Families Association/NAFA, Northwest Adoption Exchange, Attachment Parenting International, Nurturing Attachments, and the Oregon Post Adoption Resource Center

Motivation to Adopt

As an adopted child myself, I always knew that I wanted to adopt my own child someday. Since Ted and I got married a bit later in life, we did not have the opportunity to have children of our own. Adoption is a perfect fit for us! We are really looking forward to becoming parents.
