Family Description

Loving two parent family looking for 1-5 children, open to ages/cultures/gender. For a single child would prefer twelve and under. For a sibling group, prefer 0-14 but will consider all ages if it sounds like a good fit. We are a christian family that believe in loving hard, playing hard, and emphasizing the important things: family, respect, kindness. We are open to children with medical/physical/emotional/developmental challenges in the mild to moderate category. We have experience with speech issues and learning disorders.

Preference Description

We are looking for a child 12 or under OR sibling group. Willing to consider all mild to moderate physical, emotional, and developmental issues

The Lockett Family Profile

Hi! We are the Lockett's. We are a loving, warm family who are looking to grow in number. We are a christian, dog/animal friendly home where laughter, together-time, and encouragement are the most important things.

We are looking to adopt 1-5 children, open to gender - ethnicity-and ages. For a single child we would prefer under 12. For a sibling group we are willing to consider all ages. We want to come along side these children and help them stay connected to who they are while helping them look forward to becoming the best version of themselves they can be.

Introduction

We are a two parent working family but we ensure that our jobs are flexible with weekends and holidays off. We try to emphasize dinner together most nights of the week and weeks are all about family time. We swim, do family game nights, watch movies, and make smores frequently. Once a month is a special weekend where we do something together whether its bowling, Disney/Universal, or relaxing at the beach. We enjoy cooking, gardening, movies, and traveling.

Home and Community

We live in a suburban neighborhood in Florida in a two story home with a pool. Our home is in the best school district in our area. The street we live on is a dead end street and there is only one way in and out of the neighborhood. We look out after each other and know our neighbors here.

Parenting Experience

Amy is a physician assistant and has worked with kids with multiple medical, emotional, and behavioral issues. We are parents to an exceptional 11 year old who has multiple learning disabilities. We are experienced in fighting for his education and the IEP process. We have utilized various testing, tutoring, and private options to help him be the best he can be. We are familiar with speech delay and utilizing speech therapy.

We have read many articles and books on childhood trauma and keep trying to utilize resources to become more aware.

Support

We have fantastic friends, neighbors, and family. Aunt Karen lives with us and is a great resource to give extra love and encouragement.

Our extended families are multi-racial and serve as excellent sounding boards for any cultural questions we have.

Motivation to Adopt

Adoption has been on our hearts for over twelve years. We wanted to be stable in our personal, emotional, spiritual, and financial lives before bring any child/chldren into our home. We built our "forever" home and felt in our hearts it was time to pursue adoption.

We know that it won't be perfect or easy but that if we all work together, it will definitely be worth it Family is forever.
