Family Description
Maddie and Joel are two loving and creative people looking to grow their family. Maddie is a Middle School/High School teacher (English and Drama) and Joel is a Postal Worker. They love spending time playing board games, reading, gardening, camping, visiting family and experiencing new things. They own their own home on a dead end street with a large backyard and garden. They have two little dogs and a cat who love to cuddle. Maddie and Joel are open to any child or a sibling group that they have the resources to support, no matter their background.
Preference Description
We are looking for a child who loves to spend time with family. A kid who loves animals, board games, camping, etc. Would love a child with a big heart for others. We are open to any child that we have the resources to support, no matter their background
The Hatcher Family Profile
We would love a child who loves spending time with family. Someone who loves animals, board games, camping, cooking, etc. A perfect fit would be a child with a big heart for others. We are open to any child that we have the resources to support, no matter their background. We have a lot of love to give to a child and would love to welcome siblings if they are the best fit, however, we do only have one spare bedroom at this time that siblings would need to share. We plan to convert the large shop attached to our house into a large family/play room, giving our kids plenty of room to learn, grow, and play.
Introduction
We love spending our time at home or out in nature. We enjoy quiet nights in with take out, watching movies, playing board games, doing puzzles, gardening, baking, visiting family, taking walks, disc Golf etc. Our favorite activities away from home are camping, visiting the beach, going to museums, parks, plays, movies, etc. We live in a small home on a .25 acre plot with a big garden that we enjoy in the spring and summer. We live on a quiet dead end street where neighbor kids love riding their bikes and where we have a lot of friendly and protective neighbors. We have two little dogs and a cat who love cuddles. Most days have us working and then coming home to cook dinner and spend time together. Most weekends are spent taking care of our home, working outdoors, or visiting family. Summers are when we do more road trips for camping, beach visits, or new experiences. Summer is also the time that we do our annual family rafting trip in Maupin, Oregon. We would love to share these things with a kid or two!
Home and Community
We live in a small(cozy) two bedroom home on a large lot with a big garden and large shop. We live on a quiet dead end street with lots of friendly neighbors and kids who like to ride their bikes. Our community is pretty small but growing. There are lots of fun community events in the spring, summer, and fall, that we like to participate in, including, the Elephant Garlic Festival in North Plains, the Washington County Fair, The Corn Roast, Car Show, and Chalk Art Festival. We live in the town of Forest Grove, which has a medium size school district that has a lot of opportunities for students. However, I am a teacher for the Banks School District, which is smaller and could enroll them there so that I am better able to support them as I know the staff there. That district also has thriving opportunities for students.
Parenting Experience
We have several nieces and nephews that we help care for often. Maddie's sister and her two young children (2 and 4 at the time) Lived with us for three months while she went through her divorce, and we spent a lot of time helping with them at that time. We helped most with mealtimes, bedtimes, transportation, etc. We also love taking our nieces and nephews on adventures to the park, bookstore, zoo, etc whenever we can. Maddie is also a teacher with a lot of training and experience related to her career. She started as a staff member of the Boys and Girls Club while in college, worked at a preschool while she prepared for graduate school, and is currently also the coach of the High School Drama Program at Banks.
Support
We have a lot of support in our life. Our family all live within 10 miles of us, including Maddie's siblings who have both older and younger children of their own. Both of our parents are also very supportive and love helping with grandkids. Joel's mom has already volunteered to be standby childcare. All 4 of our parents are retired and have lots of time to spend with their grandkids. Maddie also has a lot of coworkers who have children we can turn to for advice and support, including two that have been through adoption from Foster care and one who has a child on the spectrum. We also have access to resources through our adoption agency and the county for any other support we might need. We are 100% willing to find any and all support we or the child might need to be successful.
Motivation to Adopt
Our experience with Maddie's sister living with us with her kids in the Spring of 2020 showed us that we really truely are ready for children of our own. We went through tantrums, and bedtimes, and mealtime standoffs and loved every frustrating and loving moment of it. All we want is a child to love, challenges are part of life and we are 100% ready and willing to do whatever it takes to make our family successful! We have not made this choice lightly, we know that any child we adopt who comes from care will have their challenges because of the nature of being separated from their birth parents. We want to provide a stable and loving home for that child to heal and thrive!
