Family Description

Our names are Deron and Marguerite. We live in a small town in Oregon with our biological 10 year old son. We enjoy sports baseball, football basketball and my husband is a baseball coach. We also enjoy camping, hiking, and all winter sports.

Preference Description

We are hoping to adopt a child between the ages of 5 to 12, either a girl or a boy. Our son says he would really love to have a younger brother. We both work full time so a child with moderate or severe special needs would be difficult.

The Kosoff Family Profile

We would like to adopt a child between the ages of 5 and 12 and are open to boys or girls. We can accommodate a sibling group of up to 2 kids. We prefer to adopt a child of Caucasian, Hispanic, Black, Asian, Native American or Pacific islander ethnic background.

We are open to children with animal, asthma, or drug related allergies. Ethan has been saying that he would really love to have a younger brother or a sibling that he can grow up with and play with since he is the only child at home. We both work full time so a child with moderate or severe special needs would be difficult.

We will support children with existing relationships with their birth families as our own family of origin is becoming smaller and feel now more than ever that these connections are highly important to development.

Introduction

Our names are Marguerite (Margo) and Deron Kosoff. Margo is currently 52 years old and Deron is currently 56 years old. We have one child, Ethan Kosoff who is 11 years old and a second son, Alec who is 27 years old. Ethan lives in our home, and Alec who is now an adult is living in the same town and working.

Margo works full-time for the US EPA as a Program Analyst and has a flexible work schedule. Deron works full-time for Paradigm (HP Contractor) as a Tech Writer and he also has a flexible work schedule.

As a family we enjoy a variety of sports, especially baseball where both Deron and Ethan play on teams. Ethan is very active in sports. Deron is a coach for two traveling baseball teams where Ethan is a player. Our family also enjoys hiking, winter sports, camping, and spending time with our two dogs. Monday through Fridays are spent at school or at work with a traditional dinner and family time at the end of the day. Most weekends we are attending a sporting event or trying to get outside as much as possible. We like to travel as we feel learning about different areas of the US and other countries and cultures are important to an enriched life. We also enjoy attending concerts as we have an appreciation for all types of music.

Home and Community

We live in the State of Oregon in a single family home in a quiet cul-de-sac with a large park and baseball field nearby. We have two medium sized dogs and three chickens, and a large area for outdoor play.

The schools are in a great, sought after district with dual language programs (Spanish/English) if this is something that would interest or help a child. English speaking curriculums schools are also available. Various activities for sports, music, and the arts are available in this area and something that we are already navigating and familiar with here in our town.

Parenting Experience

Deron is an active baseball coach for young children, and has been for seven years now. We had previously provided respite fostering on weekends for children between the ages of 5 and 13 years of age with a variety of backgrounds and behaviors. We were foster certified through Morrison and attended a variety of trainings that were required to maintain our certification.

Support

We have one living grandpa who lives outside the area in Washington that we go visit often. Marg0 has an adult sister nearby that can support the family along with a certified babysitter that is a friend of the family. We have occupational therapy for children in our community, and wonderful doctors, therapists, and dentists. Our community has a nice Boys and Girls Club that hosts on-site aftercare programs at every elementary school. There is a host of afterschool programs that support a variety of interests.

Motivation to Adopt

We understand that any family dynamic can come with obstacles and challenges and we have been discussing this on a weekly basis working out possible scenarios. As parents, we are the hub of the family and we must maintain a good communication network where we have solid family plans for anything from discipline to finances to fun activities. We know when to ask for help and when to seek assistance for our children and ourselves. There is always the unexpected and we will learn how to adapt and help each other and our children using outside resources as needed. We know that it could be very hard and we have been discussing how we can support and love any child and also maintain a healthy and supportive relationship with each other and our current child. We have a good understanding of each other and have worked through a lot of challenges individually and as a family and feel we have what it takes to support a new member of the family. We know the realities of this and feel that we are equipped to make this new family work.
