Family Description

A fun-loving married couple in Oregon with four cats and lots of love to give.

Preference Description

We are looking to adopt a girl and/or boy between 0-14 years old, of any ethnic background. We are willing to accept minor or medically correctable conditions, a child with special needs such as PTSD, attachment, learning, or developmental delays.

The Proctor Family Profile

We would like to adopt a boy or girl who is less than 14 years old. We feel we can best accommodate 1 child at this time. Almost any ethnic background will blend in with our family. We are open to children with many, many special needs. In general, we are looking to adopt a girl and/or boy between 0-13 years old, of any ethnic background. We are willing to accept minor or medically correctable conditions, a child with special needs such as PTSD, attachment, learning, or developmental delays.

Introduction

Our names are Jessica and Edward Proctor. Jessica is 34 years old and Edward is 35 years old. We do not yet have any children.

Jessica works full-time for Pendleton Woolen Mills as an Inventory Planner and has a flexible work schedule. She likes reading, baking, cooking, drawing, painting, running, watching movies, and seeing musicals.

Edward works full-time for Nordstrom as a Chef and has a flexible work schedule. He likes skateboarding, cooking, running, hiking, reading, watching movies and gardening.

We celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas by sharing meals with our immediate families (sometimes separate and sometimes all together). We also like to celebrate birthdays with our families. We started going apple picking many years ago when we lived in California and we have carried on the tradition in Oregon. We are looking forward to creating new traditions.

Home and Community

We live in the State of Oregon in the city of Hillsboro, which is about 15 miles from downtown Portland. We live in a townhouse on a cul-de-sac in a suburban area. We have a backyard and live next to a large green space and have various trails and playgrounds within walking distance. We have four indoor kitties.

Parenting Experience

We have no children, but we each have experience with kids. Edward has three younger sisters and worked at a daycare center in high school. Jessica led the middle school youth group at her former church for two years during college. We have several friends with children who we have spent lots of time with, as well as a four year old niece and 5 month old nephew that we see as much as possible.

We have both read The Connected Child and The Five Love Languages of Children. Additionally, Jessica will be taking an introductory psychology class this Fall.

Support

Ed and Jessi have a very strong support system in their immediate family members, that all live locally. Jessis parents live in Vancouver, WA, and Ed has 2 sisters and his father who all live in the greater Portland area. Both Ed and Jessis families know of their decision to adopt and are fully in support of this decision. Both Ed and Jessis families are very loving, supportive, and nurturing, and would not hesitate for a second to extend the same love and support to Ed and Jessis new family member, as well as to Ed and Jessi. Ed and Jessi also have an abundance of various clinical practices in their immediate area, such as psychiatrists, therapists, and various specialized doctors. All these practices are good resources for any specific need for either the child, or Ed and Jessi.

Motivation to Adopt

Jessi and Ed have been ready for the responsibility of parenthood for years now. They both see raising a child from the foster system as a great responsibility, and are eager to welcome the new child into their family with open arms, baggage and all. They are both aware of the challenges associated with adopting a child who has experienced trauma, but are ready to run headfirst into whatever this exciting decision will bring.
