Family Description

We are a loving family of four! We have myself, Brenna, my husband Anthony and our 2 sons, Ezekiel (8) and Solomon (5). Anthony is a chiropractor and owner of a clinic that we've owned for the past 6 years. I am the business manager at the clinic and work very part time from home. We recently started homeschooling and decided it was a great fit for our family! Our boys love playing outside, legos, swimming, kung fu, and golf. As a family we enjoy traveling, going on adventures, hiking, going to the beach, the lake, the mountains, swimming, playing games, reading books etc. We are a part of a non-denominational Christian church and our faith is a big part of who we are. We are eager to add another child or two to our family!

Preference Description

We would love to welcome a child who is kind, open-hearted, loves to learn, play and spend time together. We spend a lot of times being active and outdoors, especially in the summer. Our two boys love to play together and love playing with other kids too!

Child Preferences

We are looking for a child between birth and 7 years old. We are open to one child or a sibling set of two. We are open open to either gender. We would love to be paired with a child who is kind, open-hearted, loves to learn, to play and spend time together. We are not looking for any particular race but if we do adopt a child of a different race we would seek to honor their heritage by making it a part of our family culture, and keeping them connected to their culture of origin. We are open to having contact with the biological family if it is safe for the child, and we believe it's good for every child to know their family of origin.

About Our Family

We are a loving family of four! We have myself, Brenna (35), my husband Anthony (33), and our 2 sons, Ezekiel (8) and Solomon (5). Anthony is a chiropractor and owner of a clinic that we've owned for the past 6 years. I am the business manager of the clinic and work only 5-6 hours a week from home. I stay home with the boys full time and we recently started homeschooling finding that it was a great fit for our family!

Home and Community

Our home is a comforting, inviting place to be. We all love spending time relaxing and playing in our home and big backyard. We have a flock of chickens and a hamster who our kiddos love! We have a lot of fun activities in our area. As mentioned earlier we love being outdoors and we get a membership to a local swimming pool in the summer. We have a bunch of hiking trails nearby, lakes, and the beach is only 1 hour away. We make it to the beach at least 2-3 times a year and enjoy going to the nearby mountains in the winter for sledding and playing in the snow. We recently purchased a motorhome and are looking forward to many long weekends of camping! As far as school goes, I mentioned previously that we started homeschooling for the first full year this fall. The boys are doing great with it so far, and it has provided much needed stability in contrast with the opening and closing of local schools. We will play it by ear each year, re-evaluating what the best course of action is for each child. There is a fairly good elementary school nearby, as well as options for charter schools and a great private school we've looked into as an option for middle school and high school. Our children's education is very important to us and we want only the best for them, which is why we've decided take care of their education ourselves for the time being. Our adopted child would not need to go to childcare since I am a stay-at-home mom and when I do need childcare for whatever reason, my parents are nearby and love taking care of the kids.

Parenting Experience

We have 8 years experience parenting our own children and we hope the fact that they're such amazing boys speaks just a little bit to our parenting efforts. I believe our strengths are our common values through faith, our solid love and family structure, and dedication to always learning how to become better at parenting our kids. We have taken training on parenting in general over the past year as well as training in adoption. We've done DHS foundations training, TBRI training by Karen Purvis, and completed the "Courageous Parenting Mentor Program" online with Isaac and Angie Tolpin. I've read "Parenting: The 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family" by Paul David Tripp, "I Call You Mine: Embracing God's Gift of Adoption" by Kim de Blecourt, "The Lucky Few" by Heather Avis, "One: Impossible Starts Here" by Suzanne Mayernick and Gwen Oatsvall, and "Wounded Children Healing Homes" by Jayne E. Schooler, Betsy Keefer Smalley, LSW, Timothy J. Callahan, PSYD. I am about to begin reading "The Connected Child" by Karyn B. Purvis, David R. Cross, Wendy Lyons Sunshine, and "Ready or Not: 30-Day Discovery for Families Growing Through Foster Care & Adoption" by Pam Parish. We believe that personal growth and parenting growth skills are so paramount in how we are able to parent and raise our children, and we plan to never stop growing.

Support

We have a great support system in place and are so grateful for the people we can rely on. My parents live 15 minutes from us and help with babysitting, as well as just hanging out together regularly. Sometimes they travel with us. My best friend lives close and is "auntie Kelsey" to my kids. Anthony's parents live in AZ but are also very supportive, we usually travel there once a year and they come here once a year so they can be involved in the kids' lives. Our friends and church community have been an invaluable source of support over the years and continue to be through the pandemic. The kids are a part of a homeschool co-op that meets once a week, as well as the occasional nature club outing. Our next door neighbors have kids the same age as ours and love spending time together regularly in the backyard!

Motivation to Adopt

We are so motivated to add to our family through adoption! Due to some difficult health issues on my part, another pregnancy was not in the picture after the birth of my youngest. We have always envisioned having at least three kids, possibly four, and can't wait to make that dream a reality. We understand that there are unique challenges that come with adoption that make it so much different than having a biological child. But we believe with our love, training, support system, and our unwavering dedication to the children that we call ours, we can work through any challenge and come out stronger on the other side. A child that comes to our family through adoption would be every bit as much our child as our biological children, and would be a part of our family forever, no matter what.
