We are so excited to adopt a child between the ages of infant to 5 years old, preferably of Latino background. We are open to adopting a boy or girl. We are willing to accept minor medical issues. We prefer to adopt one child, but are open to and can accommodate a sibling group of up to 2 kids.
Will grew up Los Angeles, CA and is Salvadoran-American. JoAnna grew up in Santa Rosa, CA and has family roots in New Mexico. We think it's so important that our child develops a strong sense of identity and we will definitely honor our child's cultural heritage, community and previous positive and healthy connections.
Hola! Our names are JoAnna and Will Flores. We are a bilingual and bicultural family, and we love spending time together! We are both bilingual educators and love children! Our beautiful daughter Holly is an elementary school teacher. JoAnna & Will both work full time, but JoAnna will be able to have a more flexible schedule once we welcome a child into our home.
It's important to us to teach our children about the Lord (reading the bible, singing songs), as we surround them with lots of love. We also enjoy being outside in nature! Some our favorite activities are riding bikes, hiking, taking walks, playing soccer and gardening.
We enjoy family gatherings with extended family for holidays, special events, birthday parties, sports, get togethers - telling stories, eating delicious food, connecting with family here in the US and abroad. We have lots of nieces and nephews that we are very close to and they can't wait to have a new cousin!
We also find joy in helping others, giving back to our community and being involved in our church and community events.
JoAnna and Will live in a beautiful community in Beaverton, Oregon. We have a lovely new home next to a park with a community lake, surrounded by nature and wildlife. We live in small and safe family-oriented neighborhood. There are great schools and churches in close proximity. In addition, there are many activities such as soccer, swimming, kids' classes, in our nearby Parks & Recreation Center. Beaverton is truly a great place to live!
During the summer, we enjoy taking family trips such as visiting family out of town, camping and the beach.
We have always been surrounded by children! We have had the joy of raising two beautiful children, as well as professionally, JoAnna being a bilingual elementary teacher and Will being an elementary school principal. As our kids were growing up, Will loved coaching their soccer teams. We are also involved in our nieces' and nephews' activities.
As educators, we have taught, counseled and mentored many children over the years. JoAnna has been a teacher for 20 years. Will has been an educator (first as a teacher, and then as an administrator) for 25+ years. In addition to our experience as parents, we have always had the privilege and honor to work with some of the neediest children and families. We are dedicated in working with and serving Latino and multicultural/multilingual families.
Our greatest joy has been raising our children and spending quality time with our nieces and nephews and watching them grow and develop. It would be a blessing to welcome a beautiful little one to our family.
Additionally, JoAnna and Will have both taken a number of child development and child education courses in both our under-grad and graduate courses. Additionally, we continue to participate in trainings about trauma-informed care and nurturing the whole child. We have also take adoption preparation courses. We are looking forward to provide a nurturing home for our child, full of love and acceptance.
We have a large, strong family, friends and support network that are so excited for us and looking forward to having a new family addition! Our child will have an amazing and adoring big sister (Holly) who will not only be a loving big sister but also another mentor and role model. There will also be many aunts, uncles, cousins and two loving grandmas that are all very excited.
In addition to our family, friends and church community we are connected to community resources and local supports available for adoptive parents.
