Meet Samuel and Charles!

Samuel is bright & quirky and tall and thin. He has an excellent sense of humor and is always telling jokes and using puns. If you ask Sam how he's doing he will probably respond, "I'm doing gouda cheese!" Samuel can be very talkative and is not shy around new people. He has a talent for computers, video games and enjoys his tablet. Samuel also loves watching his favorite television shows such as Scooby Doo and Smurfs. Samuel loves collecting Pokemon cards and can name the hundreds that he currently possesses.

Samuel is in overall good health. He could use a caregiver’s support to help him structure his diet and assist him in making healthy choices.

Samuel attends a specialized classroom with help from an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). He is very brigh, though can struggle with large crowds or other situations he finds overwhelming. Samuel participates in the life skills program at school and enjoys learning to make his own meals and care for himself. His dream is to one day have his own "Youtube" cooking channel.

Samuel would benefit from a caregiver who is patient and willing to understand what might be upsetting Samuel, as well as helping him remain in comfortable situations and environments. He will benefit from caregivers who are willing to advocate for Samuel and his needs.

Charles is also tall and thin. Charles has a huge smile and is usually very optimistic. He requires a lot of prompting to carry conversations but usually will report that he is doing "pretty awesome." Charles has an amazing memory and a special talent for music. He would love to participate in music lessons especially with an instructor who understands children with special needs. Charles loves to collect DVD's. Although he does like watching them, he prefers to read the back and memorize the information to remember later.

Charles, too, attends a specialized classroom with IEP support. However, he is working towards entering some of the mainstream special classrooms with his peers such as P.E. and Music. Charles was recently in the school play and did an impressive job remembering his lines! Charles would benefit from a caregiver who is patient and who is willing to develop a positive understanding around working with children who experience behaviors on the autism spectrum. However, he would also benefit from a caregiver who challenges him as he often will surprise people!

Charles is very bound to rules and is excellent at following them! However, sometimes Charles can be upset if someone else is not following the rules or if something unexpected happens. This can result in an outburst or self-regulating activities like such as rocking. He needs parents who can help prepare Charles for events that may feel uncomfortable.

Samuel and Charles are very bonded. Samuel tends to do a lot of the talking for Charles. Both boys would love a home where they can remain together. Samuel and Charles love a lot of the same activities such as tablet time, watching their favorite shows, Pokemon, reading, and swimming. Both boys play independently but enjoy the time they have together. They have an important birth family member with whom they will need to remain in contact after placement. They will need adoptive parents who can do lots of advocacy and who can nurture their special talents and abilities!
